We see the process of design hand-in-hand with the process of construction: design is not complete before ideas have been constructed. The ideas or ideology is just as important to determine reality. We are interested in the work of critical regionalists such as in South Africa: Gawie Fagan, Norman Eaton and international Alvar Aalo and Carlos Scarpa using tradition, within a specific context as their main influence on design. We are also interested in the preservation of the past; every moment is determined by a distinct position in time giving a foundation or point of reference to our existence.

WORK PROCESS
DELIVERABLES
Professional services are procured and the project scope is determined.
The client’s brief is formulated in conjunction with the input of the client. Relevant studies and information (feasibility studies) are gathered and analysed from the site and context in order to assist in formulating and complimenting the above mentioned processes.
An appraisal is also formulated taking the broad scope of the project in mind.
An appropriate design- and / construction team are procured. The design concept may now be investigated and the process of design development may flow from such initiation.
The client is being consulted with throughout this entire process.
The concept design is developed in 3d with reference to structural & construction system and finishes the process.
The construction service is being procured and the relevant contract documentation may be compiled. The preparation of the construction (technical) documentation may then be initiated which in turn provides for the calling of tenders to commence.
Afterwards follows the tender adjudication process in which the architect may render an educated opinion of which tender appears to be most suited for the project in question.
With the appointment of a contractor, the site is in essence handed over. As construction commences, the architect must guide the contractor as to achieve the required quality and standard of work. The architect will therefore answer questions, deal with clarifications and administer revisions if necessary.
The goal of the architect is to lead the contractor in achieving practical completion.
This phase provides for the conclusion and completion of the contract document and the administration thereof. Ensuring that the client may start utilising the building with satisfaction.
The above includes the defects liability period.
